Not really giving him any spare thoughts... he was ‘gifted’ in BC.... yeah right... more likely he scammed them online...

He can wait another 8 years, by then there should be a powerful enough QC that can crack it in 20 mins and he’ll have his bitcoins :D

    Play stupid games
    Win stupid prizes.
Something about having 3 backups is what I've been told is the norm in the IT world.
I have nothing for a dumbass who leaves himself so volatile.
I might buy him a coffee if I met him in real life.
But that's as far as I'd go

I feel more cozy with 4 backups, 2 being offline.

I'm just wondering another scenario, what if this gentleman had the password, but forgot where he put his drive, and 20 years later in 2040 found the drive. Will the bitcoins still be valid? Assuming bitcoin still exists at that time but has evolved. :D

Maybe, if they purge the blockchain in order to help keep it decentralised. But lets hope storage technology improves so we don't have to worry about this (though it has been painfully stagnant for some time now).

use a baseball bat to hit on his head, now he can remember the password again lol
OR keep hitting the head until either outcome, remember the password or dead

Storage isn’t a problem, just write it in on a piece of paper and store it in the SDB. :D

my question is will the keys itself become obsolete? It’s like paper money, every 20-30 years they change into a new design. In some jurisdictions, you’re given only a limited amount of time to change your old notes before they become worthless.

You miss understood what i said. Storage is not a issue for you individually, but it might become an issue for the network.

As i said before, the key might become obsolete if they decide to purge the blockchain and you don't respend to bring it into the new active part of the blockchain. Understand?
