I do not understand why anyone would buy bullion from eBay (even if genuine), when the same item can be directly bought from a dealer (Perth Mint etc) for about the same price - or often less.

"Cheap" gold. If you sell on Ebay you'll get some stupidity low time wasting offers. The reason they do it is often sellers bite and take your offer. Earlier this year I got 55% under spot. A couple of weeks ago in the dip I got 9% under, and yes it's real gold.

If you know what are you doing, you can buy even gold on Ebay-there are some bargains from time to time, but one must be careful. In the last month I was able to purchase 1/2 oz and 1/4oz new gold coin year of mouse for the prize of $4 and $12 respectively over spot-you can't get this from any dealer anywhere....

But I wonder if all the research time and effort involved, plus the increased risk of fakes, should be included in the cost of any "bargain"?

Can't say for sure from those photos that it is not legit, but I would not bother or waste my time, too risky.
Seller has been eBay member since Feb 2020 with 2 positive feedbacks, one of which says No No No!:D

The shit spelling and grammar doesn't instill confidence either. And that baloney about it taking 3 weeks for PayPal to pay him so he'll accept bank deposit only is funny too. I've added it to my watchlist just to see how it ends :D

Actually that part of his ad might be legit, I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago on eBay.
I started selling a lot of expensive coins on eBay then, and for the first month or so PayPal would hold on to my money
for a similar period of time.
I guess it is PayPal's way to make sure that the buyers receive their goods, and that they are not going to be sending them back for refund.
I legitimate seller should not have an issue with that.

Yes, that is true but it provide the perfect cover for someone trying to avoid the PayPal protection buyers get from using it.

Do ebay remove items that are reported as fakes or replicas?
