APMEX wouldn't ship these to AUS for some reason but would allow me to purchase via eBay?! Go figure. All done now.
Hmm, in know GST is exempt on bullion, but I guess they'd have to declare it on a customs form for them to know... Not sure how it's going to pan out.
You should only pay $88. As you know, Bullion is GST free. You'll probably have to show Australian customs your purchase invoice and since it's over $1000 AUD, you'll have to pay the duty but that's all. If they try to get you to pay GST, send them links that prove the coin is bullion: Perth's bullion site or their blog or the currency determination or Perth's brochure or Youtube video for the 2019 coin which will prove to the customs brokers that your coin is indeed bullion. If Perth update their mintage pdf's you can use that as evidence too. Just have all your shit in one sock, do your research before they ask, because they will.
It is my pet hate that you had to buy an Australian coin from the USA. And the pricks at the border will charge you a fee. You're bringing Australian Currency back to its home FFS.
You will have to pay the $88 for sure. UPS might charge you processing fees to fill in that form for you. Item will be declared as precious metals and have a copy of invoice with it, so customs will have access to it.
not much choice as perth mint contracts for overseas companies like LPM hence bulk of coins go overseas and Perth mint gets allocated a small percentage to sell locally. Its all a money making program by the mints to squeeze premiums out from the "bullion coin collector". First it was the designs and now they start restricting mintages. Its a free trade world. U can always get a local cast bar from PM or ABC or Ainslie if you wanna buy local..
Always Divvy out the shipment to about $900 AUD blocks. But yeah means you cant buy gold 1oz coins. But you can still get 1/4oz or 1/10 oz for now.
The face value of the coin ($100) should be enough to argue the point however they will base their decision on the invoice price.
If it's over $1000 from BS, you won't get the coins until you pay 88, it's a simple and easy payment though, you'll probably have delivery from FedEx the customs staff will send you a link which can be paid quickly. As in the message to STKR, just have hard copy proof that the coins are bullion.
Time will tell & you'll be able to let us all know then. I spoke with Border Farce the other day about the very same conundrum. They were useless. When I asked them about customs & excise it was as if I was speaking another language. Anyway they said no customs & excise is payable, but it would be assessed for GST. I told them bullion is exempt....crickets. "Is there anything else we can help you with today"? "yes, can you tell me why Border Farce willfully disembarked 2000 passengers from the Ruby Princess into the Sydney CBD"?...........more crickets. They don't do well with questions, despite the high wages.
Awwww yeeaaah! APMEX delivers! (UPS can suck an egg - Terrible service) If it weren't for that Black Swan lingering in the background, I would've never bought this coin. I also bought the 2020 gold swan and the 2019-20 BU silver, as-well-as the 2019-20 proof silver Swans. I also bought two of these. Hopefully they're Decent quality...
lol I just bought a couple 2020 1oz swan proofs the other day. Missed out on the gold 2020 when PM had a few of them on in June. Bullion now also had the 2019 swans in stock couple weeks back as i tipped them off to perth mint stock and they grabbed it all to resell. anyways thats it for me for swan collecting. Just gonna go back to stacking regular stuff.
