Just asking experts' opinions... I think this one is aXF close to aUNC...note that coin in plastic sleeve And how much? Cause I bought this one CHEAP, but ages ago Comments appreciated
It's a meh sovereign. But a slab might help allay fears that it's genuine in a market with many first time buyers.
I have sold a few slabbed sovereign's on eBay over the years and have found that only the choice uncirculated (MS 63/64) achieved the sort of prices that would make me consider slabbing one myself. But with yours being a Sydney Mint, and if you think that is close to Uncirculated grade then maybe go for it. I have a few Sydney Mint sovereigns in EF condition and would not consider slabbing any of them.
Your money mate. Ten of thousands of 1857s survive despite what the book says. I buy Type 2s as pure bullion like any other. When you next buy a cheap sovereign off someone, complete the deal and then ask if they have others. It's often the case that they have a folder of 2x2s or literally a bag that they inherited or have lost interest in.
Right'o mate... I'll sell you this one as bullion then? Want it? PS-never knew SOVs are pure bullion...I can tell you're such experts.
What else do you call them? All the dealers I know call them bullion sovereigns, from chards down. I see no point arguing. If I can still find technically average grade sovs this year - including two 1860s type 2 - for under spot then why can't you? Watching old members of this forum trying to buy and sell here and ebay etc just leaves me scratching me head and thinking 'what are you doing?'
This lunar guy still at it. Wonder who he is trying to convince. Bubble mate, my best buddy. If you are going to take lunars sage wisdom on board and offload that coin for spot or less keep your old friend serial in mind
If you're considering selling it, yes it's a good idea to slab it. Turnaround times can be several weeks. Just for sh*ts n' giggles, here's a recent AU58 (in US$)
'lunar guy' should have plenty of 1860s SOVs @ bullion price for you mate... maybe a little over the spot for 1855 SOVs and 1/2 SOVs
