Any dealers in Perth that I can take some Crowns to in order to check they are genuine? Bought some on ebay awhile ago, and I'm a little suspect of them.

Check the weight. A fake I had was about 5 gram below normal.

If you can't get a hold of a xrf and crowns can be tested on a PMV, you're more than welcome to use my PMV

Thanks guys, I'm in Bali at the moment and don't have any scales. Heading to Perth soon, then have to quarantine for 14 days, so I have time to contemplate. :)

How good was the fake you bought? Did it closely resemble a genuine Crown?

It was a crown sized silver coin from a Grandparent's coin collection, and it was well worn. The point I was trying to make is that you can do your own tests with magnets and scales, and this sometimes picks up fakes.

Thanks madaw1 and bron for the locations. I have to quarantine for a fortnight anyway, if the silver frenzy has subsided then I'll head to one of these locations, otherwise I'll wait, I'm in no rush.

It has eased off and we stayed open all through so no problems popping in.

Well I went to ABC in Perth today and had some Crowns tested. The 1937 I most thought was fake because it looks too good is real, and 2 x 1938 Crowns are fake. Bummed about the 38s since I paid around $100 each on eBay. Looking into the transactions now to see if I have any recourse but it was almost 2 years ago I bought them.

Unfortunately due to length of time in regards to the transaction you will have no recourse with eBay.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Still poking around in my ebay account, looks like the 2 seller accounts I bought from have been burned and now have lots of negative reviews.

Pictures of the fakes if anybody is interested.

Hey, so when you using their xrf machine, do you have to pay or free of charge? Anyone know if any dealer in sydney that would do this?

I don't pay with my local, and I suspect most dealers will do it for free. As long as you don't abuse the service of course. Find a dealer that you would buy from sometimes and developing a relationship wont hurt either.
