Well Pamp have their technology together with the veriscan phone app available for customers unlike the Perth Mint, they don't even keep records of the certi card serial numbers (just phone and informed they only number them so customers can record them in case of thief) & said if your worried about fakes take them to a dealer to be tested, wow. Just confirms my feelings about the Perth mint & how little they care about anything other then making money.

I don't know if this one is real, just found the below as i never heard of an Ebay / Perth Mint Bar before. From the pricing I'd not trust it but i never buy gold or silver from Ebay anyways. Just checked his feedback not good.

I will admit that I have (mainly silver and a little bit of gold) and the first thing I do is take them to my local bullion dealer and get them tested on the XRF machine before I leave any feedback. I have picked up some nice pieces (like a 5oz America the Beautiful coin and a couple of 5oz Libertads) with some good prices and a few under spot.

I also tend to research the shit out of whatever piece I'm looking at as well to make sure it matches what it's meant to be and then run all the basic tests when I get it before going to my bullion dealer for final verification. Best that I have done is pick up a 1/25oz gold coin at almost 25% under spot (including postage) which left me well chuffed, especially when it was verified on the XRF :)

SteelHand its a lottery mate, can be tempting but anyone can post a pic of the real item and send a fake or a thousand other shifty things. If you've had good luck I'm happy for your wins mate.

    Hi Dross,

You are quite correct that it's a lottery and I have been lucky so far which I put down to using as much common sense and research as possible (as well as checking out the feedback rating and seeing how many "revised feedbacks" they have). For the gold items I bid on, I usually pass up many others and tend to go for things that don't have a "stock" photo. I also set my max bid, taking into account the postage, and don't go over it. I win probably 5% of the gold auctions I bid on and the first thing I do is check the received item against the photo posted and a genuine photo from a bullion site and scrutinse it with a loupe as well as the basic checks one can do before getting it XRF'd. It sounds like a lot of work but the results can be worth it (as per the 1/25oz coin find)

The majority of the silver I buy tends to be from the same sellers , but having said that, I still get them tested. I've got a really nice small collection of uncirculated 1964 Kennedy Silver Half Dollars that still have the cartwheel effect when you tilt them which I bid on from the same seller in small batches over the past few months.

I am realistic enough to know that each purchase is a gamble and that eventually, there's a chance I'm going to slip and get a dud and although I much prefer to buy on this site as the prices are quite reasonable and you can pick up some really nice quirky coins and bars, you can also find some nice stuff on eBay as well as long as you're cautious and take your time.

SteelHand sounds like your well versed in your due diligence and do as many things as possible to ensure your not getting scammed. I like the 64 kennedy's also maybe cause its my birth yr and from all I've read JFK was a good guy (not perfect but then no human is). I hope you continue to have great success brother.

Its actually quite frightening to think of how many of these fugazi bars will get in the mix in this current market with dealer shortages etc....will be loads of fomo/uneducated buyers trying to jump on the bandwagon that will end up getting burnt hard - some not even knowing they've been burnt till they try to sell in the future.
