Any excuse to run the scam....

A big part of the problem with us 'rich westerners' and how we can easily fall victim is we have been completely sheltered to the scams of the rest of the world.

    Bigsky has given great advise.

Most importantly think positive, I wish a good outcome to this crap situation.

more the case of we are more trusting as this is less common when dealing with each other. Dealing with People who are actually honest. The rich westerner part is more than likely just Justification to them selves so they kill away any small amount of guilt they may have.
They wonder why they live in shitholes, its because of the sort of people they are.

Our biggest problem is assuming people who live in these shitholes must be good people in a bad situation, when reality is their bad situation is self inflicted and likely the good ones have left the shithole along time ago.

Measure its diameter and thickness with proper tools ( calipers) would be a good start. Weight should be 62.2 and not a .1 over or under. PM gold bullion coins are spot on weight wise unlike their silver coins because of material costs.

perhaps someone here will loan you their PMV device for the occasion, if I had one I would even though I am new and dont know you. God i hate theives.

appreciate that. I have Jewellers scales, but is there any tools specifically I could pick up from a hardware store? Maybe veneer calipers?

I just realised I might have to pay some sort of duties when the package comes back in. Am I liable for anything if he writes the proper value?

I don;t think you should be paying import duties as it is a returned item

Evil_ss did you contact fedex and try and confirm that the tracking number is genuine and that
it is on their system and that the parcel is coming to australia...or did you take your buyers word

Also I have not heard of fake 2oz lunars...did you try searching for them to see if they are available?

Has the parcel moved as yet?

have you had any reply on whether the funds are in escrow with paypal?

    cheers

    Hi Mate,
I rang FedEx and they actually had my address on file for the parcel (which shocked me), and so far it hasn’t left Albania, although there has been two updates.

lastly, PayPal confirmed he doesn’t receive the funds until I confirm I received the coin.

I have my scales ready, not I just need to purchase some digital calipers and find e specs for the lunar

So they won't just pay him based on the tracking number showing it has been delivered? They will actually wait on you to confirm first?

If that's the case, tell them you received an empty parcel and stick it to this scumbag!

PayPal did tell me they won’t release the funds until I confirm I receive it. I’m 95% sure it will be an empty package anyway.

How does that work? Does Paypal release the funds to him once you signed for the package (even if it is empty) or until you say you opened it and got it?

Whilst this line of thinking might seem warranted...and make you feel good

It then just brings us down to their levels in a way

Maybe when this is over...contact Albanian customs and tell them about the
declaration that he requested...but you are also at fault here so that might
    get you in trouble too

Really if Evils lunar does arrive back...then we have won anyway
albeit a lot of worry and probably sleepless nights on his behalf

But I dont think Evil will see his lunar again...its obviously a scam..as was bayareararecoins
I dont see a scammer sending a $5k coin back...its probably long sold anyway

The fact that it hasnt moved in a few days is an omen , and has the parcel been received by
fedex or is it just the shipping label has been created, I know you can create the shipping label
before actually handing over the parcel...at least the bigger accounts can

I did learn something yesterday about fake tracking numbers...I did some googling and found this
    https://gist.github.com/joshkersey/2029597
I dont claim to fully understand how it works but it looks like fake tracking numbers can be created

I am not sure how this will play out now...but you have done really all you can now to protect yourself IMO

Paypal/ebay might be the ones to get scammed here....like they appear to have done on the bayareararecoin case

But this will be the fault of their policies or staff

I really think that this case would work well on today/tonight...especially fliming its arrival (if it does)
It would also help make sure that you actually get out of this unscathed financially IMO

    cheers grant

If it hasn't been mentioned before make sure you open it in a post office, police station ect' in front of a witness as proof of what is in the package! Get that person's details before leaving & good luck with it I feel for ya

    Thanks for yo replies team!

so far the latest tracking says “Left FedEx origin facility”

so we’ll see. To add salt to the injury, I asked PayPal what evidence I require of it doesn’t arrive etc. and I stated that it will be filmed and possibly the news crew, and they told me they usually don’t accept photographic or video evidence!! What that actual??

they might except the evidence from a news crew. lol, Bad publicity in regards to Paypals weakness to scams and safety concerns might see them refund you pretty quickly.
Especially when they promote how safe their platform is.
