Trade war is a misnomer. There was never a war to begin with. It’s just fiscal policy manoeuvers.

    That’s more than fiscal?

    HYBRID WAR: CLAUSEWITZ DECONSTRUCTED

I never cease to be (mildly) amused by US Think Tankland, for instance via CIA outlet Stratfor, constantly celebrating “their” success in undermining Moscow via hybrid war.

Hybrid War on Russia was engineered in 2014 on two fronts: ordering the Gulf petro-gang to crash the oil price and imposing sanctions after Russia opposed the coup - actually color revolution – in Kiev. Hybrid war was engineered at a Deep State level as a tool to try to smash Russia’s outstanding recovery since Putin was elected in 2000. The undisguised Brzezinski-style goal with the Kiev coup was to draw Russia into an Afghan-style partisan war.

Of course Russia suffered economically. Hybrid warfare rules that once economic hardship is engineered, government becomes unpopular; then you launch fakes and traitors - Alexei Navalny in Russia, or “protests” in Hong Kong that the Deep State dreams would lead to an uprising in Beijing (yes, these people are paid lavish salaries to think at highly moronic levels).

China is being hit with a rolling trade war and sanctions, hybrid war-style, with the ultimate “dream” of engineering a Chinese vassal. This has NOTHING to do with trade. There’s NO logic of avoiding a trade deficit with China only to see the same products produced in Thailand or India. What’s goin’ on is hybrid war all over the spectrum trying to destabilize and possibly defeat Russia, China and Iran – the three key hubs of Eurasia integration.

Thus the reconstructed Clausewitz axiom – according to which, originally, war is a continuation of politics by other means.

Clausewitz argued how war is a real political instrument.
Clausewitz remixed now reads: Hybrid War is Politics by Other Means.

And the means now go way beyond conventional war, blending irregular and cyber war, fake news, lawfare (as in the Brazilian case), electoral intervention and even “diplomacy” (of the gunboat and/or economic blockade variety).

And its top practitioner is, who else, The Moronic Inferno.

China Rejects Trump's Tariff Olive Branch, Vows Imminent Retaliation Against US

One day after the Chinese press roundly mocked Trump's unsolicited tariff delay as proof the US was losing the trade war with China, with the Global Times saying that "Chinese experts said the sudden postponing of impending tariffs showed that the maximum pressure tactics of the US are losing their bite when it comes to China", a suddenly emboldened Beijing - perhaps sensing that it is indeed dealing with a weaker opponent - called planned U.S. tariffs on an additional $300 billion in Chinese goods a violation of accords reached by Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, and warned it would take all necessary measures to impose new tariffs on its own.

Echoing what Global Times editor in chief Hu Xijin said overnight, a short Thursday statement from the State Council Tariff Committee said the new 10% tariffs have taken the U.S. and China off the track of resolving their dispute through negotiation, and noted that China "has no choice but to take necessary measures to retaliate," without specifying what the nation would do. The committee has overseen tit-for-tat retaliatory tariffs on American products.

US unseals warrant to seize Iranian Grace 1 tanker released in Gibraltar https://on.rt.com/a03e

The US has ordered the seizure of newly-freed Iranian oil tanker Grace 1, charging the ship with illegally using the US financial system to sell oil to Syria to support the IRGC after Gibraltar released the vessel.
The Justice Department has unsealed a warrant ordering the seizure and forfeiture of the Iranian tanker, all of the oil it is carrying, and $995,000, claiming the Iranians illegally used the US banking system to finance the shipment of oil to Syria to support the IRGC, which the US designated a terror group earlier this year as Washington’s “maximum pressure”campaign against Tehran ramped up.
Accusing the ship of violations of bank fraud and money laundering laws, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, and terrorism statutes, the US complaint alleges “multiple parties affiliated with the IRGC” used voyages like that of Grace 1 to support illegal activities and claims “a network of front companies” laundered millions of dollars through these shipments.
Gibraltar released the Iranian tanker after claiming to receive a written assurance from her captain that the vessel was not bound for Syria as the UK Royal Marines who seized it last month had alleged, though Iran has denied providing such an assurance. Despite multiple formal US requests and attempts to hold up the departure in court - which Iran’s ambassador to the UK called “desperate, last-minute efforts” - Grace 1 was finally permitted to leave the UK territory.

The ship has been renamed “Adrian Darya” and fitted with an Iranian flag for its onward journey at its owner’s request, according to Iranian state media. Meanwhile, the US has warned of “serious consequences” for its crew - though those consequences appear to be limited to barring them from travel to the US.

Gibraltar lifted the detention order for the vessel on Thursday, affirming in a statement that there are “no longer any reasonable grounds for the continued legal detention of the Grace 1 in order to ensure compliance with the EU Sanctions Regulation.”

How painful are U.S.-China trade tensions for American ginseng farmers?
    Source: Xinhua| 2019-08-20 15:19:57|Editor: huaxia

    http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2019-08/20/c_138323440.htm

The U.S.-China trade frictions have prompted an accumulative 40 percent tariff on Wisconsin ginseng exports.

The businesses of ginseng growers in Marathon County, Wisconsin, may be just another victim in a sea of struggling U.S. firms and farm due to the ongoing trade disputes initiated by Washington against Beijing.
