We could file in through the door one at a time and watch the guys making their videos. Just joking guys. lol. John (not my real name).
We are getting a bit of mileage. I might put together a survey of interested participants, then fa further survey on venue.
Hi all... Have been working on this behind the scenes for some time. Had been in discussions with a number of parties in relation to venues. But not to the point where I could announce anything. The leading candidate for a venue, and the one I think we are most likely to get is Sydney in September or October. We should do as Sam suggests and put together a survey etc. ... That will (or wont) validate what we have been thinking. Then we can co-ordinate the rest between Malachii, Sam and myself if that seems suitable. Ck.
I would probably only go interstate if there was something special happening, such as a tour of the inner workings of the Perth Mint. I probably wouldn't go interstate if it's just going to be the usual stuff, such as an auction and chat.
I don't think so. Some times to have something happen, we all have to pitch in. Not unlike buying a babe flowers and dinner to get a root. The outcome is worth it. BTW, if in Sydney, I'll source the cocaine and hookers!
If I was coming down I would need to bring my wife along and find something for her to do, so somewhere big with lots going on would be great, Sydney sounds good for that. I would probably want to combine it with something else as well to make the trip down worthwhile, either a behind the scenes tour, a product launch or something that will make it stand out. Even just some bullion rounds minted to sell on the day to mark the occasion. Obviously a dealer giving discount would be a bonus but I wouldn't be coming down just to save postage on some stuff I can get online. Also still not 100% convinced that I want to meet you lot in person.
Regardless of where its held, we can run a couple of talks and discussions that should prove helpful to many Stackers. It might be an opportunity to put some local buying groups together to cash in on some bulk purchases.
With apologies to Groucho, "Who wants to meet with members you'd be prepared to invite to join your club!"
If we are going to have an annual Silverstackers meet; it's only fair that each capital city is afforded an opportunity to host the event. However to ensure a decent turn-out for the first annual meeting I think either Sydney or Melbourne should be chosen! I am not sure why anyone should contribute $50 towards the hosting of this event. Let's not kid ourselves; charge $50 attendance fee for locals and 90% of the local members will be absent. If anyone is going to profit at the meet, then they should be the ones contributing towards the cost of hiring the room and refreshments. You can hire a large room where we have our monthly Sydneystackers meet for around $200 - $250. Another $300 is more than enough to pay for a dozen jugs of beer, soft drinks and snacks. To cover these costs, charge anyone who want to display and sell their bullion $100 per table with a maximum of 6 tables. I know it's no frills, however this model worked perfectly well at our first Sydneystacker's meeting.
The notion to charge locals was to compensate those travelling from interstate who would be spending a couple of hundred dollars to fly in. Similarly, if they could be picked up and dropped off at the airport, that would also help alleviate their costs. I don't think anyone would profit from the meet. Perhaps dealers may choose to pick up the cost of the venue but I don't see that as a large profit making venture. The fact that Capt Kook is someway down the line with a possible Sydney venue may give us better direction down the track. Early notice will allow interstate visitors time to chase cheap airfares.
If you charge locals then it going to be an interstate meet in Sydney as 80% of locals won't turn up for something they can get for free when they attend Sydneystacker's meets. You should know by now how tight fisted stackers are! Just getting someone to shout a round of drinks once in a while is already so difficult. It's always the same small group of stackers who pay for the jugs! Whether the meet is held in Sydney or interstate, I don't expect or wish anyone to subsidize me!
Hi Sammy, Sounds like a good idea.....happy for the inaugural to be held in Melbourne where Silver Stackers started ... nothing against the others states . Sunday Lunch Event - then members can fly in and out on the same day. Also agree with Aurora et luna...no need to charge the host members a fee. Those that want to attend from interstate, will attend regardless .
Well, to add just a random thought... here's the ANDA coin show dates for Melb / Syd 2019 if that would make an interstate trip for anyone more appealing... 2019 Melbourne Money Expo Saturday 17 August 10am – 4pm Sunday 18 August 10am – 3pm Malvern Town Hall, Malvern 2019 Sydney Money Expo Saturday 26 October 10am – 4pm Sunday 27 October 10am – 3pm Lower Sydney Town Hall, Druitt Street
