The Perth Mint is pleased to release the Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2019 1oz Silver Bullion Coin. It is the fourth Australian wedge-tailed eagle coin designed by celebrated American sculptor and engraver John M. Mercanti.

The coin pays tribute to Australia’s largest bird of prey by depicting the majestic animal in flight with wings fully extended and rays of sunlight in the background. The design also includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’, the 2019 year-date, the coin’s weight and fineness, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The Australian legal tender coin features the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination on its obverse.

A maximum of 50,000 Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2019 1oz Silver Bullion Coins will be released Australia-wide.

    I think it's a really nice design!

    "A maximum of 50,000 .......... will be released Australia-wide "
A strange sentence structure. Never seen worded that way before. Neither the words "mintage" or "worldwide" appear.
Or am i being overly suspicious?

I can't get my head around an eagle coin being Australian. That will probably put me off buying any of them.

Currently comparing to BOLD and LPM, Modern Coin Mart has a bit lower price + free shipping

Australia has 24 species of diurnal raptors (birds of prey). Wedge-tailed Eagles are slightly larger than Bald Eagles but weigh slightly less.

The Wedge-tailed Eagle is identified as Aquila audax. Aquila is the genus of "True Eagles". The Bald Eagle is identified as Haliaeetus leucocephalus. It is a Sea Eagle, not a True Eagle.

ASE stands for American Sea Eagle. Knowing this has turned me off buying them. I much prefer the Wedge-tailed Eagle limited mintage bullion coins over generic ASE's produced in the millions.

For a variety of personal reasons, I have avoided buying anything associated with the USA. The eagle is such a well known symbol of that country, I guess I was essentially commenting that in my mind I was throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I have seen that before and always find it quite amusing.

Is BOLD an American site? I haven't heard of it before. I don't have any of the other wedge tail eagles, but that is a good looking coin...

I think it's a good looking coin and I was all set to buy it, but then I started thinking - since I'm unlikely to sell on ebay - silver would have to go up ALOT for me to get my investment back because in the long run that is what I'm stacking for - the eventual sale of my stack when I retire or something.

I’ve avoided any semi-numis with more than 20% premium as we can get queen beasts, lunars and kooks at less than 20% premium most of the time and these already have a proven track record. But I’m tempted to get the 5oz Libertad which is over 27% premium. :)

Well I went ahead and ordered one of these from eBay today. I may live to regret it.

i really love the Wedge tail eagle coins, but for some reason I'm not liking this coin as much. I like the eagle design, but i think the radial lines are throwing me off.
