Any advise on purchasing from the USA?

What are the things to watch for?

Is this a done thing when the price/availability is right?

    Bullion dealers to use?

Thanks in advance for any opinions/advise.

Keen to understand more on this myself. There are some pieces which are near impossible to find here but easy to get over there. GST and inport duties will be a trap.

Thankyou....any idea on where you would find out the GST cost?
Would the bullion dealers disclose this?

    GST is 10%.

Many US silver sellers have free US shipping.

To buy silver from the US:
    1. Sign up for an account with a freight forwarding service such as Shipito, Hop-Shop-Go or Parcl. Freight forwarding services provide Australian shoppers with a US address to give to the retailer, and then ship the package to Australia for a fee.
The freight forwarding service will add the 10% GST.
    2. Receive your silver items.

Or you can lodge alot of forms, be charged "processing fees", "customs charges" and post your arguments with customs officials on this site. Your choice. I find it is better to just pay the GST and avoid the hassle...

From memory, if value under $10k AUD then you don't need to lodge an import declaration form to receive. GST not applicable on investment grade gold or silver (99.9%+). The sender needs to declare consignment properly though (99.9%) or you might get a customs fee for manually looking. I would only advise to order from a producer/mint TBH.

Don't do it unless you have too. It's not worth buying from anywhere overseas. Postage, GST, problems if it lost in mail or with returns. It's just not worth it. Buy in person from your trusted local bullion dealer is best.

Shipito won't ship bullion or coins. Not sure about the others.

GST is only payable on numismatics, not bullion. And if you buy from a dealer that doesn't charge GST at their end and you stay under $1000 you won't get stung when it goes through customs here.

In terms of bullion dealer I would recommend Apmex. They're aware of Australian customs requirements. You sign a declaration form which states you're importing investment grade bullion which goes with your shipment. When it gets here you get a call from the Courier to pay the $80 or $90 customs fee and bobs your uncle.

I like buying when I’m in America. Found some pawn shop jems in the boonies and shopping for silver in the diamond district in New York is a spinout. Always carry on and never a problem....curious TSA is the worst of it.
