Question to our SS Community - Where can we purchase a precious metal varifyer from in Australia & which Type do you suggest to protect ourselves from such things happening - I'm a skeptic about products on EBay at the best of times so any feedback would be appreciated. If this in the wrong area I do apologise but it is tied to the issue at hand. Cheers SM

Sigma Precious Metal Verifiers seem to be the affordable/reliable option for most unless you have a spare $18-20k to invest in an XRF

Pretty much this. I can recommend a good site to get them from if anyone wants.

I just don't want to be seen as a shill, just a really good experience with the owner of the site who was amazingly helpful in helping me with duties and information. Plus the price worked out too be substantially cheaper than if I had bought the same unit from an Australian seller.

Mike Riley his name is. He might even be actively involved with the design and production of the units, but don't quote me on that haha

Since I bought my unit, it would appear they have some new and improved verifiers, and um reading up on them right now :)

    Oh wow.

The new PMV seems amazing. My only gripe with the original Sigma is the awkwardness in testing fractional gold. Might consider selling my current one and upgrading. One owner, only taken out on Sundays :)

And the Gold tester seems interesting. Would be beneficial to not have to acid test...

Not to be pedantic, but 22k is .916
So technically it will do under 22k :p

What gold coins are below .900? I've never come across such a thing

I hope to have my jewellery tested tomorrow by some pawn brokers. Was too busy to go out today. I have multiple items to get tested, a chain, a cross and a pair of earrings.

I'm sure that someone will tell me if I am wrong LOLOL, but I think I saw that you could buy them from http://www.goldstackers.com.au/store/ a few months ago.

Pretty sure, but won't stake my life on it - folks?

Funny how we have to get our gold tested for purity, but we don't test the counterfeit CRAP that we accept every day from the TPTB? - RANT OVER.

I think it's not about having Sigma unit or whatever... this goes down to Seller is being dishonest. Buyers here trust the Sellers' comments but deliver fake bars...

In this incident, Seller's intention IS to SCAM.

This is but a mere suggestion ( since I don't know if it's even possible to do so ) but what if GM calls the cops - he knows the guys real name and most probably his bank details as well, and call the guys bank as well explaining that he received money fraudulently explaining what happened to him - to the seller's bank. Wouldn't the bank be able to refund his money since a crime was involved? Then again maybe this is just a stupid idea because the banks policy or the law doesn't allow it? I don't know. But if I were in his situation I would be clutching at straws trying everything to get my money back.
