I am wondering if we can carry gold and silver while leaving Australia. Is there any limit? Has anyone done that?
Don't know if there is a limit but my mate took a kilo kook in his carry on last year without a problem..... did create a lot of 'wows that's a coin?!!?' at the baggage scan
Yes, it's fine provided you fill in the required Australian Customs paperwork for anything over $10,000. You can stick 20kg of gold in your carry-on baggage if you like, provided you fill in the paperwork. The more important question is what are the requirements of your destination country. Exporting from Oz is okay, importing to somewhere else might have issues.
depend where your landing destination a legal tender in your boarding country may not be accepted as one in your destination country
I've taken metal on international and domestic flights, yes. It's worth remembering that security guards and customs officials don't get paid much to do a generally boring job but they do get paid to be suspicious. Even if you're not trying to hide anything, they can take as much time as they like checking you and your stuff. Pulling a few ounces of gold out of someone's luggage is probably the most interesting thing that will happen to them that day.
It was a few years ago, but no problems at all. Same story every transfer destinations. Not even interested to take a closer look. That is only gold they said after the xray opening of the bag.
I always travel a lot carrying about 10 oz of gold and rolls of silver without any problem. From Europe, Middle east, Asia except India, Pakistan. I bought few times from Turkey, Poland, Croatia, Alaska, Singapore, China and Hk without any problem. I always ready to pay tax in case of inspection so my receipts are always available. Never been stop for few ounces and i make sure it is not bigger than an ounce.
