I actually really enjoy platnium a lot. I don't have a ton, but it is just a nice commodity to have. :)

A year later: Darn I really want one of these..
Snakes drained me but, let me look in the cookie barrel.
    Anyone bullish for the plat?

    I got sum 11's, any further dip & I get the 12's.

I love the platypus series, and I see that the Discover Australia set comes in 1/10oz colorized coins that I may be tempted to pick up in the near future. So far my favorite size of platinum coin is the 2oz Koalas. I'd *love* if they perth mint did a platypus coin with maybe a slightly different design every year in the 2oz size, but if they don't end up doing that, I'll continue collecting the various years the koalas were issued in that size . . . when I can find them ungraded.

Sometimes Perth has koalas for sale; if you ring them now and then you might be lucky.

Here's a link to availability and prices. (Sroll down about half way) :)

No not true - there is a new ruling - all old coins sold to the PM will be melted down and not sold back to the public ...

How can they melt down coins that are sold back to them like Koalas when they have a face value and are legal tender?

Cos they're a mint not an ordinary individual. Privy editions, coloured coins, one tonne coins, coins with lollies inserted - the sky's the limit for a mint

    Hi Holdfast

I was told this by the PM staff and after writing to Ed Harbuz (24/09/2012) this was confirmed in a personal letter from him. If you doubt this please contact Cathy (head of the PM shop), Ron Currie, Ed Harbuz or Bron they will all confirm this.

    Cheers thanks Ron.

Today I contacted Perth @ the Perth Mint Shop (Delivery) the lady there confirmed that they did not sell the older bullion coins as you kindly pointed out.
The lady I spoke to wasn't aware of the Web Page that indicates "sales subject to availability". I had to provide her the URL.
    http://www.perthmint.com.au/metalprices.aspx

    Apparently it hasn't been updated.

When I queried her she said that Perth had a Perth Bullion Counter, that buy bullion, she says that it could be possible to buy older coins if they are handed in by the general public.

I take your written letter as the correct course of action, Ed, Ron and Bron are the gurus so I apologise to you and others if I have provided in correct information.

    Thanks for your post.

    H

Thanks anyway for that link, I was so excited to see the other coins I've wanted listed there until I read the rest of the posts here. It's baffling that they'd melt down coins sold back . . . unless they're really concerned about getting counterfeit or tampered with coins. Oh well, I will have to keep my eye on APMEX . . . they're overpriced but their selection is the widest most varied I've found here in the States.

I notice that Platinum spot price has dropped below $1500 today. Is anyone a long time watcher of Platinum, when do they think this slide in price will bottom out?

how do u even find a thread with the last post in 2012, did u want to say something about the platypus so u searched that as a keyword and posted in that thread? did u remember this thread from 2 years ago and it matched what u were thinking?
did u not feel that your comment was worth its own new thread?... I MUST KNOW! :|
