Just what we needed. At this stage Silver Stackers is subject to an ongoing Chinese Bittorrent DOS attack. Basically a Chinese ISP trying to block torrents by DNS spoofing the trackers with a random IP address - and someone has decided that Silver Stackers was due to receive a bazillion unwanted requests to stop the locals from watching downloads of Fifty Shades of Grey. Mitigation efforts are underway, however this is likely to be a sustained attack for a while. Additional mitigation support has been sought from our hosts. The sheer volume of requests has compounded the existing performance issues the site was under (that were due to be worked on today), however activities on fixing general performance have been put on hold by the DOS attack response. More information will be provided as it is available. For now however I've been able to restore service, and I fully expect that the site will continue to be up and down for the next few days until the DOS is fully mitigated. https://www.facebook.com/SilverStackers is hosting status updates when the site is down (I just noticed the Facebook link in the head is out-of-date).
Host is working on kicking the packets from their network using their existing edge tech - they don't want it on their network. Kudos to Micron21 - pretty happy with the support I've been given lately. We already utilise Amazon Cloudfront, but I might have a look at Cloudflare's DNS hosting.
so in summary: Someone on SS watched 50 Shades of Grey, which lead to a Chinese cyber attack, and forced Silver and Gold price to end higher overnight.
No need to watch it. Just go grocery shopping on pension day and you'll see fifty shades and a couple of shades of blue
Same. Offered to take the gf to it but when she saw Kingsman was out, it was an easy decision. Is this the first SS DOS attack? Had noticed an increase in 'glad I registered' spam posts so wondering if that had anything to do with it.
I don't get it. what's the movie got to do with anything? Why can't they use the DDOS on something positive like ASIO or Bolts blog.
We had a DOS attack that was caused by a poorly-written spambot a few years ago - at the time we were with a different host, whose response at 4pm on a Friday was to shut Silver Stackers down and send me an email saying I had breached their terms of service by running a website that was "too busy" for their infrastructure to handle. That's when we migrated to the current host. Will definitely look into Cloudflare.
What the hell is that all about?! Someone gave me a cinema gift card last year and we still haven't used it so this week we looked up the 20 films that are showing and they were all utter rubbish, but she chose "Kingsman" as the one she wants to go and see?! Looks like a budget James Bond/Men In Black rip off, why would you even bother leaving the house to see it? Anyway after much discussion we are going to see "Kingsman"
It is clearly the cartel trying to prevent the popularity of silverstackers.com from increasing and convincing more people to by PMs.
