Think it will be popular as the first coin of this type in the series. Wish it will have no milk spot issues
It is one among the milk spotted on what i bought. I always buy different bullion coins. This series goes ugly so fast compare to others.
Yeah, I sold all mine about 5 years ago. They were riddled with spots and stains. What a shame for such a nice coin. But with stains and spots, bye, bye premium...hello spot price, pun intended.
I collect elephant coins and have all years of these but 2015 I gave up, too many quality issues even with the limited mintage variants. Fortunately they have also expanded their fractional gold offerings as well, although I think the 2017 design is quite ugly and don't plan to pick up any ;-)
Dumped this junk series too, not only the raw coins either...never have I ever seen so many graded coins with milk spots ( Most you couldnt even call spots, more like spills...all over the surface of the coin ) . What it looked like when it left NGC = https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/3679961-047/ Now....
I have to completely agree with you on this one. Many many coins have I seen graded a 70 with similar issues. Some I was the initial owner on and stored them with protective measures to no avail. It was not present on the early years, just the later ones the last 5 years or so.
Relative to mintage I have seen the same quantity of milked proof britannias as bullion elephants. (the reason I do not buy modern proofs graded or grade them by myself - milk spots develop even on pandas starting from 2004). As of series - I like it as I had no issues with it, while I have coins going back from 1999
I have 6 years worth of elephants with multiples of each and have not had a single milk spot yet. Actually I only have 2-3 coins with spots and they are all the maple leaf wildlife series. I might just be beating the odds.
none of my canadian wild life coins have milk spots either ... all from SS forum coin members. do not grade bullion unless it worths more than 5x spot buy coin not the grade store coin properly
so true. and not just milky spots, it is the fogginess and smudge showing on the shinning parts, make the coin looks really bad. Can hardly sell on Ebay. And I think some big dealer does some chemical cleaning before they sell on Ebay. The coins after cleaning still shows the spots under the light bulbs, but can hardly see the spots under the natural day lights. I suspect the spots will come back after a certain period of time.
