Unless you've had it in your possession for 200 years, it has been cleaned.

Take it to a dealer. Plenty of fakes around and this has plenty of questionable features.

Here's some questionable points JM2cents yeah, so take it with a grain of salt.

There are lots of micro scratches running in the same direction.
Also the fields are scratched in the same manner.
Toning around the edges and legend with no real patina to the rest coin surfaces.

    Definitely been messed with.

    Other features:
    Rim nick on the reverse.

There's a website in the UK called http://www.predecimal.com/forum/

I think you'd get better answers there.

    EDIT:
You'd expect to find a coin that's 200 years old without any impairment to be extremely expensive.

Not worth repeating by now, as I'm sure the point has been hammered home, but.. Repeated!

And would not get a numerical grade by NGC / PCGS because of it.

    Oddly, no milk-spots?

Musta been a product of those old-time Brit clean-rooms.. ;)

I remember those days... here's a photo back from the 1818 when they minted coins in those clean room. Funny how they did it too....
