Hi, they did not get back to my earlier email either, but I sent them another one this afternoon and had a quick within the hour reply. I guess they are dealing more with the incoming emails than going through the backlog. That's why I shared with everyone. Because we are all here to help
Nothing would surprise me with regards the PM marketing strategy and their customer service. However, before we shoot from the hip I think we need a formal response to GP as our representative and the site administrator. A letter from SS should be sent to the Perth Mint asking for clarification in this matter. There is clearly conflicting information and we need some clarification. Their response should be posted on the site so that all Australian and international coin collectors can be correctly informed. If Ron Currie is away someone else can respond.
With BB the good thing is the price, IMO BB have been hugely influencial and a market leader in driving the price of silver bullion premiums to a market low and for that i think them, in terms of email repsonses the arent Upper echolon but lets face it they are damn cheap and often have great buys. They have had a couple of recent hick-ups but if you understand the scale of their operation and get it in perspective id say they offer a service few can rival, but yes expansion may mean they hire a PR or email/phone response for customer services type questions such as these... i suspect they didnt have the answers and when the actual facts were established they wouldn't much enjoy fielding calls on the subject. 1for1
So will the old, toned, crappy looking 1992 kooks command a premium because they are obviously the genuine 20 year old article ?? ... or will the punters want the shiny new versions and the toned old ones will sell for less ??
Actually I didn't find them that cheap on most products - when I was looking at their offerings I found they are about the same as pretty much every other on-line dealer. I didn't see too many products that were noticeably cheaper than any other dealer. Only reason I went with them was that they were, at the time, the only place advertising these coins. Turns out that other places had them even cheaper. My comments were not intended as a criticism of their selling the coins without telling us they were restrikes - seems noone really knew what was going on there, so fair enough. My criticism is about them not responding after 3 business days. IMO if you want me to pay immediately, you can respond faster. These guys aren't that much cheaper, and don't respond efficiently to emails which due to the hours I work are often the only way I can communicate with someone. I did receive an email from them confirming they had receive my money but nothing about the questions I had asked. You seem to know them well, but for me, all I can go on is that they are a sponsor here and their website. They had a chance and blew it - fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I won't be fooled by this company again thank you very much.
I've bought from BB several times and my stuff has always come through OK as ordered. But I agree their communication is, how should we say, sub-par. Also I know that 10 April was the first day they were to ship out all the coloured 1/2oz, 2oz and 5oz Dragon coins so perhaps that has kept then busy. But as a matter of courtesy if you are going to take people's money up-front, the least you can do is reply. Phoning them is usually the best way for an immediately reply.
group buy and re-melt new coins into rough bars when they left oz. just to make some people calm or just buy up what is left
ozbullion was/is cheaper than BB,well at least with them '92 kooks easy for them to be cheap as they reside in Perth. They can walk into the mint and buy anything as they wish. As we all know PM charges extreme amount for shipping. So there you go with the cheap prices
The mint switched to round capsules in late 1999 for the 2000 Kook. Unless someone is re-encapsulating a huge stash of old Kooks and sealing them up in mint rolls, yeah, they're re-strikes. Only 2.84 million to go before the old Kook mintages are maxed out...
I say, be thankful. It could have been another Dragon variant. 1oz bullion Dragon with Kook privy? 1oz bullion Dragon with Ronald McDonald privy?
