Hi guys Some of you may be familiar with APCGS, the Aussie coin grading company. There’s been report of plenty of coins in APCGS slabs acquiring PVC damage and a non natural finishing to the surface. If you have anything in APCGS, you might wanna check the coins. If any one else is having the same issue, feel free to comment below. Curious to see how bad this actually is.
Who would have thought that using cheap knock off Chinese slabs would cause chemical damage - I for one am shocked... Next people will realise that their grading's are worthless and some of the slabbed coins are fakes... where will the horror stop...
Thanks i was going to get some coins graded with apcgs a few weeks ago and thought i would give them a try and noticed there website is down at the time and still is. Did some research tonight abn, whois. past coin community usernames etc and they have been banned there. Total of 14 listings sold on ebay in apcgs slabs the last 3 months with one non paying bidder. Gradings on those coins are imo not worth a pinch of sh-illings and glad i didnt..
Not to mention their grades are unreliable. I’ve seen several coins APCGS graded at MS45 which isn’t even possible lol
G’day Jayden, Their slabs are toxic, along with their inexperienced grading skills. The APCGS website is no longer, it’s defunct, along with the grading business, which means you can no longer authenticate the grade or the coin. The company was a joke really. The owner took many collectors for a big ride, whilst working for a hardware store, before shutting up shop. He says another grading company bought him out, but this seems as far fetched as all of his other empty promises and truths. Moral of the story, break those coins out of those toxic slabs, before they are damaged further by the cheap, nasty eBay slabs they are sealed in with superglue. The grades are no longer relevant and any serious collector will overlook them and the defunct grading company. The grading costs are lost, but if the coins aren’t damaged as yet, the coins still hold a raw value.
Digging up a old thread I know, but this APCGS item arrived in the mail today from a recent purchase. What an absolute joke this shambles of a company was! This sovereign was given *very* generous MS63 Lots of fine abrasions on the obverse fields and plenty of bag marks and light scratches and edge knocks. The case opened very easily too by just prying it open with a thumbnail. Not to mention the housing and labels with the pixelated image and Comic Sans logo screams cheap and nasty. Glad they shut down, good riddance!
