This version of Silver Stackers has the ability for users to create and manage albums of media, both photos and video.

Regular members can upload 25MB of images, while paid upgrade Silver Stackers members can upload 100MB of images and video.

This facility is only to be used for hosting content for use on the Silver Stackers website, and is not a repository for personal use. Silver Stackers makes no guarantees that content uploaded will be maintained or backed up - so consider everything uploaded to be "volatile" content at risk of loss.

    Warning!

Firstly, a warning about privacy. By default, assume everything you upload is visible to everyone else, including unregistered guests. There have already been several instances of users posting proof of payment, images of packages with other member's names and addresses etc, personal pictures of their children etc. Treat it like any other website on the internet - post it on here, unintended persons may get access to the images. Common sense stuff. If it's sensitive, send it via email, don't upload it to a precious metals discussion board.

Administrators can view ALL content uploaded into the forum, regardless of the method or privacy settings. That is baked in forum functionality, and it would be incredibly naive of an administrator to allow unregulated image hosting on a server they administer.

Silver Stackers makes no warranty or guarantee that images uploaded via the forum will be secure and/or private.

Users found uploading adult content or other objectionable material will have their user account on Silver Stackers terminated immediately. Take it elsewhere, this isn't the dark web.

    Uploading images

Users can upload images in three ways:

    1. Cut & paste directly into a thread or conversation
    2. Upload to a Media Category
    3. Upload to a Media Album

Posting images directly into a thread or conversation

Images in your clipboard can be posted directly onto the forum, without uploading, through the WYSIWYG editor while you are writing a conversation or thread post. You need the image itself in your clipboard, not the image file - so clicking "copy" on a file in Explorer for example won't allow you to paste the image into a thread, but opening the image in an image editor like Paint or Irfanview and copying the image from inside the viewer will allow you to paste it into the forum.

This is how images have been posted into this thread - they won't appear anywhere under the Media tab, in categories or albums. They're only visible the thread they were posted to.

Images posted into threads will naturally be available to anyone with permission to view the thread.

Images posted into conversations honour the permissions of the conversation - only users who participate in the conversation can see the image. The URL to the image will not work for anyone else unless they are a participant to the conversation. This does allow images to be shared privately, but the image will remain hosted until ALL participants explicitly leave the conversation, and even then there is no guarantee that the image won't continue to exist on the web server or in a cache somewhere. This is a relatively safe way to share low level sensitive images with other users such as proof of payment, but any image uploading facility on Silver Stackers should be considered insecure, and once you share an image through a conversation, you cannot delete it if the recipient never leaves the conversation. Even if you leave a conversation, the recipient(s) will still be able to see the images until they too leave the conversation.

    Uploading to a Media Category

Clicking the Media tab on the forum will display the latest images uploaded through the Media function that you have permission to view. Under this view is the link to Add Media.

Note that images uploaded to categories are ALWAYS publicly visible. You can however delete images later, e.g. if you are uploading an image for use in a trading thread to the Trading Post category - after the sale is complete, you can delete the image.

From the dropdown, select the category you wish to post to.

    upload_2017-4-13_12-6-29.png

Select the image you wish to upload from your local computer.

Enter a title and description if you wish.

    upload_2017-4-13_12-13-46.png

Click upload. The page will refresh showing your uploaded image. It is possible to upload up to 10 images at once. Note that images uploaded to categories will count towards your upload quota.

If an image requires copyright to be cited in order to be shared, please post this into the Description field.

    Uploading to a Media Album

Images can be uploaded to a new or existing album rather than to a category. If you select Create an album from the dropdown, the Create Album dialog will appear.

    upload_2017-4-13_12-15-53.png

By default, albums are private - only you can view the content, and only you can upload content. This can be changed through the permission settings when you create the album.

    upload_2017-4-13_12-17-1.png

People Who May... View media in album:
    Owner Only
    - just you. The albums will be listed under the Your Albums link, as well as in your Browse Albums link.
People You Follow - you, and registered members you have explicitly followed by clicking the Follow link on that member's profile. These users will be able to see your album under their Albums Shared With You link.
Members Only - you, and all registered members. Members will be able to see your album under their Browse Albums link.
Everyone - publicly visible to all registered members and guests.
Custom Users - only you, and members you explicitly choose. A relatively safe way to privately share images on the forum, with the usual caveats that any image uploaded to the forum should be considered insecure.
    upload_2017-4-13_12-21-47.png

People Who May... Add media to album:
Similar to the above view settings, but for uploading permissions. Strongly recommended that this always be left to Owner Only unless you are collaborating with another member. Also, if you make this more permissive than the view setting, the view permissions override the add permissions. So inviting a custom user to add images to your album won't work unless you also give them view permissions.

Using uploaded media in conversations and threads

To get links to share the image, browse to the image in either an album or category, and click on the image itself. The page will reload. Note that on this page you and any other registered member can post comments about the image.

On the right hand side of the page, there is a section titled Share This Media. For use in a post, select the code in the field Share BB Code or Share BB (With Thumbnail) Code. Paste this into your conversation or thread.

    upload_2017-4-13_12-23-26.png

If you post a private image into a conversation or thread, the permissions of that conversation or thread will override the album permissions. So you can post a private image from an album set to Owner Only viewing into a public thread, and everyone (including guests) will be able to see that image.

Remember, images uploaded into Categories are always visible to everyone, including guests.

Edit.. Ok seems I can get images to show up with copy/past, just needed to copy them from a different image viewer, 'shotwell viewer' didn't work but 'shutter' did work.

GP, i tried to upload 2 photo taken from Iphone, both via album upload or just direct upload.

One of the photo can't be uploded via album upload due to the size and both photo doesn't go through the direct way due to the size.

Is there a better way to include a photo on the listing? I am a bit behind in term of photo down sizing.

    Cheers

That's a good idea SP but is there a way to upload a standard smart phone pic without using a third party service?

1493274325066-1532444232.jpg i did the attached photo by hitting upload a file...then gave me "camera" option on phone so snapped the door while chilling on acupuncture table waiting for next client...no option to resize though if thats what you meant but guess you could reduce resolution of camera in settings on phone.
