WeChat will effectively shut down in the US on Sunday. WeChat ban will be massive! as many Chinese people use WeChat for payments. I wonder if Australia will follow? I'm amazed it was allowed as a payment platform for so long. For anyone that doesn't understand these Chinese payment app watch this. Also SBS has a good video. LINK
US Sanction Threat for Sales to Huawei to Cost Japanese Tech Giants $10 Billion per Annum https://www.anti-empire.com/us-ban-...EHriv3Fc4MBy9Csx4NMVnB9NGQfmCx7B5B3MdKh-m1Gwc I wonder how much it will cost Australia for following anything on US ban just like Russian sanctions did cost a bundle
1 out of 10 people here are Chinese but no one uses WeChat for payment. We have our own electronic payment, no need for new ones. Lots of people using WeChat for dating though. They might come up with a separate app for payment, I’m sure quite payment isn’t the problem. It’s the encrypted chat that they don’t like.
It's very popular in Sydney. Most stores here have the option to pay using WeChat pay and AliPay (Which only Chinese can use). The payment side is a much bigger issue for government then the "encrypted" chat.
Smaller countries need to be extremely firm, not giving in even one inch, while not being provocative. What big country leaders fear the most is loss of face. Face is more important than money and probably even more important than life. If they can't get their way, they have to relent in time to come. Westerners want to negotiate and have a win win deal, but Asians only respect power and authority. There's a difference in culture.
these pay allow Chinese tourist to pay, ban such payments = ban the tourist might as well terminate all the humans movement like lockdown forever and ban all trades
the ban is like trying to stop the Bluetooth of your computer to your mobile devices to make new download and update not available in google app and apple app stores lol people can just visit the web pages to update to the mobile devices, just like banned/blocked web pages its about taking the users rights away and making them criminals at the same time in the name of protecting their privacy /piracy
Chinese tourist don't need these payment apps. It will make it a bit harder for Chinese tourist though, but will really effect the Chinese that live here illegally.
There will always be other ways to make payments. But I don't think smaller countries should follow what the US or India are doing. Head on provocation is not a good idea. You can always encourage local electronic payment methods. There should be closer economic cooperation between the Commonwealth states. There is strength and bargaining power in numbers. We shouldn't be overly dependent on the Americans. Don't let history repeat itself like it did previously.
Even if you have the app already you won't be able to communicate with it. You could use a VPN for a short while, but they will get blocked too in time.
who are you to decide what they can and cannot have ? they all have and been using them too troublesome, they can just skip to other places not sure about illegal stayers
They can do whatever the law allows them. I don't set the laws. Unfortunate for them the CCP bans many things making their life harder.
There is one clear trend happening around the world today and that's every country is starting to distance their self from the Chinese government. For many years the Chinese government thought it could ban everything from other countries and pressure other countries into doing things with insulting bribes. All this did was piss everyone off, the CCP is not good at playing the game. 10,000 years and they still haven't mastered the art.
they don't need to be there to follow the law, just don't visit; call boycott until the law get changed see who will last longer lol 90% of their people support the CCP government, its their freedom of choice, and they made that choice
I'm pretty sure Australia will last longer. Euroasia is always unstable. Look at history. The elites will always need somewhere to run to. Everything is just a show, they won't burn the bridges, otherwise where will they run?
I hope the CCP don't ban the Chinese people from visiting Australia as they seem to like it here. But if they did Australia will be 100% fine. lol just like how the North Korean people support their leader. That's what happens when you threaten to jail anyone that disagrees with you.
It's funny because you've not experienced this kind of system but I can tell you it's true. Even in Singapore, some people think like this. So, it's not 90%, but at least 20-30% of people will believe in propaganda wholesale even if it defies common logic.
may be you need to see for yourself, rather than listening to propaganda narrative made by anti China networks who are the rest of their 10%
