Economic implosions aside this is certainly not as bad as it could have been. Hopefully we will be prepared for something more deadly once we get this sorted. Also, we could still get blindsided by antibiotic resistant bacteria too which is a whole other beast.
I agree especially after my run in with staph on Wednesday. Viruses can be fought using our own bodies because they need us to live. I know that it is not as simple as it sounds ,but that is my simplified way of looking at it to justify my bigger fear of bacteria. Bacteria are a living being in themselves and they attache to us and attack us even though they can (most of the time) live without us. Viruses need hosts to survive and take over the machinery to live, bacteria on the other hand feed off us and no inherent use for our mechanics.
Then both of you would do well to stay away from primary care hospitals as much as you can. The constant disinfection is exerting evolutionary selection pressure towards bacteria resistant to common disinfectants. Steam autoclaving still kills just about everything. (If it can survive 90 minutes of exposure to 121ºC steam, it probably doesn't have the energy budget to still be an effective pathogen.)
Dw about primary care hospitals, they pump antibiotics in pharmaceutical waste in India straight into rivers. Some of the journal articles about the bugs they find there are borderline horror movies.
This is nothing compared to the flu pandemics of 1968 1958 and 1918 .... a worse danger is people breeding while they are staying at home ...

what is absurd? Some experts were predicting a civilisation-ending virus >60% mortality. Go watch an Ebola video

New leader same as the old leader. Welcome to your maga. Good job republibots. Falling for the same lies over and over and over.
I am 100% convinced that is why i got my staph infection the other day. I have never had an visible infection like that in my life from a tiny little scratch. With no science to back me up i suspect is was because the scratch was on my hand and i have been using so much hand sanitizer the last month or so. My unscientific view is that where normally cuts in this house get treated with iodine in this case i did not bother because i had been using hand san. I think the hand san knocked out all the bacteria on my hands and in this case i got unlucky and bad bacteria managed to occupy the space where perhaps MY good bacteria would have stopped that happening but i have been killing them all. Its probably just babble on my part but that is what I think caused it. This is what it looked like after the first 10 mins and it was from tiny scratch on my hand and just about did me over.
I have good news, you can treat and cure this Mexican beer virus with liposomal Vit C. Take a minimum of 6000 mg per day and it goes away. If you are in serious distress IV Vit C is effective. Vets have been using Vit c for ever. Doctors won’t. For more read TE Levy “ Curing the Incurable”.
All of this vitamin C material comes from one place - the Pauling Institute or whatever it is called. Ironically, the very people here that say mainstream doctors are in cahoots with Big Pharma in a conspiracy against the patient, these same people should know that Big Pharma itself is from what I have read a major sponsor of that Institute - the big pharma company that makes the lion’s share of the world’s pharmaceutical vitamin C! So, you can see there might be a conflict of interest. Vitamin C in megadose has some case reports only, which are so compelling they have most likely driven the quest to determine whether results can be generalised. There does not seem to be any good quality trial so far that demonstrates widespread benefit in the primary endpoints. While I will be chugging it down like nobody’s business, along with a few other things, because there is nothing to lose and infection is probable, that is not the same as saying to anyone else there is a strong evidence base to doing this.
